I need a studio for 3D CAD and graphics with adjacent A/V facilities.
I limited my design of the main structural systems to materials currently in my possession. This includes two 8’x40’x9.5’ tall aluminum cargo containers and a used steel structural arch building, disassembled, on a pallet, nominal size of 27’ long by a 25’ arch span. The optional carport will require additional arch materials.
Unlike steel containers with corrugated walls, the aluminum units have structural struts at 2’ on center and heavy sheet stock panels. The panels can be replaced with high efficiency glazing as required. Deleted struts will be replaced with rectangular steel tube headers. For drainage, I used sloped V-deck concrete form material over the containers. The 9.5’ tall units afford space for suspended ceilings to carry mechanical systems, not possible in 8’ tall units. The end doors may be opened to provide flow-through ventilation.
All appliances, electrical, and mechanical components will be energy efficient, including on-demand water heaters and LED lighting where applicable. If cost effective at this site location, the Southern exposure of one container roof (320 sq. ft.) is available for both solar voltaic electrical and thermal hot water supplemental components, which may be included. Due to the structural component nature of my design, it can be easily be expanded with more “boxes and arches”. #designyourdwelling2008
