Direct Communications System, designed and built by RCA Astro Electronics, of the S-Band High Gain Antenna (HGA) of the Viking '75 Mars lander spacecraft. Two landers, Viking 1 and 2, landed successfully on Mars in 1976. The 30-inch parabolic dish reflector of the High Gain Antenna directly transmitted and received information to and from Earth. The model includes layers that show the dish in its stowed (rotated down) and a generic deployed (pointing straight out) configurations.
