Description
Reconstruction of Hadrian’s mausoleum. Emperor Hadrian started to build it in 135 AD as the mausoleum for itself and members of the family. His successor Antoninus Pius has finished construction in 139 AD, after death of Hadrian. The mausoleum was similar Etruscan tumulus: on the square basis the cylinder topped with a bulk hill, and at its top sculptural group - quadriga has been established. In the mausoleum have been established funeral urns of emperors since Hadrian up to Severan dynasty. Then this huge building has been included in constructed at Aurelian the walls surrounding city, and began to be used in the military and strategic purposes.
