Since 1671, Jews lived in Gütersloh. As respected citizens they were connected to the town. In memory of the Jewish community and their synagogue, which was situated not far from this place and was burnt down during the Night of Broken Glass in November 1938, this stone was erected in front of the Mediathek of the Ev. Stiftischen Gymnasium. Of the 62 Jewish Citizens living in Gütersloh in 1932 27 were killed in the concentration camps.
