I designed and built these garage storage units to make maximum use of materials and space.
The one on the left has a "notch" in it to allow it to fit under the rail that supports the garage door.
The one on the right was for the back wall of the garage.
If I were building them all over again I would probably not use the metal shelving brackets. They are great for making fine adjustments (about 1/2 increments) but I found that over the past 12 years the shelves rarely had to be adjusted.
The secret is to make the shelf tall enough to hold a plastic tote, and then put everything you want to store on that shelf inside. No more knocking things off the shelf.
The photos are up on the webpage, but I am still adding the comments.
