The Digital Exchange is originally part of the Guinness buildings and was used for storing bags of hops, to used in the brewing of Guinness. In the 1980's it was turned into the Guinness Visitor Centre. In 2001 it was handed over to the Irish Government as part of an 9 acre to be developed for the purpose of creating a centre of digital excellence in a rather rundown part of the city centre. The original hops store was renamed The Digital Exchange in 2006 by Sam Lyons. Today is house the NDRC and some offices of the Digital Hub Development Agency.
