T-34 57 Tank Hunter

T-34 57 Tank Hunter

Hunter Ford
Description
This is an exact rendering of the T-34 57 tank hunter variant of the T-34 tank. Armed with the potent ЗИС-4 57mm gun, the T-34 57 was far more effective at knocking out German armor than the standard T-34. However, the expense of the longer barreled gun and the shortage of 57mm ammunition resulted in only a handful of production T-34s being rearmed with the ЗИС-4. T-34 57 tank hunter thus saw very little action and was unable to achieve fully its remarkable combat potential as a tank killer. Only one notable engagement involved the T-34 57. On October 10th, 1941 the 21st Tank Brigade, including 10 T-34 57s, destroyed a German motorized column 3km in length during the Kalinin raid, knocking out 34 German tanks, 31 artillery pieces, and 210 trucks. Although he was killed when his T-34 57 was knocked out, commander Lukin of the 21st Tank Brigade was posthumously awarded the Soviet Union's highest honor (Hero of the Soviet Union) for this daring raid. This model was created entirely in sketchup, using extensive reference materials, including blueprints and hull schematics. For other WWII vehicles, search "Synternia."
