Douglas X3 Stiletto

Douglas X3 Stiletto

Peter M.
First flown at Edwards Air Force Base, in the California desert in 1952. It was designed for twice the speed of sound. But only managed to go supersonic in a dive. It provided valuable research data. Partly made of Titanium because of the expected heating from the air resistance at high speed. Nearly 1200 pounds of research instruments were installed. A time in aviation history when humans began to attack the lower limits of space. #Douglas #Stiletto #X3
