Cambridge Urban Market and Ampitheater

Cambridge Urban Market and Ampitheater

PROJECT INFORMATION: My design intent was to reconnect the existing commerical area that wraps into and around the west side of the site. Additionally, I found that Central Square offered a lot of knooks and crannies, especially, the mural painted alley near Harvest Co-Op. This led me to determine the circulation pattern along with the placement of the ampitheater, while inconjunction connected back the northern residential community by creating an inviting and intimate theater, enjoyable by adults and children. Historically, Central Square once had a multitude of 5-6 story buildings, while some are still standing, many were replaced by smaller one and two story buildings. With that occurence, the face of Central Square changed dramatically, and subsequently it was added to the historical district. To reconnect the site back to Central Square, I chose towering wood frames and suggestive canopies as the language for the market and ampitheater. Through scale and proportion, these elements, come together to form a vibrant, connected, and enjoyable urban market and ampitheater.
