The Memorial Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a Franciscan Monastery located in Washington, D.C. was designed by the Roman architect Aristide Leonori, and built between 1898–1899. Designed after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the church is laid out like the five-fold Crusader Cross of Jerusalem. Designated as a National Historic Site in 1991, the monastery has been a place of worship and pilgrimage since it’s dedication in 1899. #architecture #Aristide_Leonori #church #DC #Franciscan #Monastery #national_historic_site #pilgrimage #roman #Washington_DC #worship
