This shelter is located in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, by the river, so it is surrounded by water, vegetation and great, big lawns. Because the structure is faced towards the city core, central part of Philadelphia is completely visible from any angle of interior, but user won’t be aware that he’s living and doing everyday tasks in the very same core of multimillion city.
Silhouette of this shelter is very sleek, elegant and modern. Very minimalistic and clean lines are visible on every aspect of it. Concrete structure is a bit rounded, but it feels very strong and modern. Main materials that are used in exterior are concrete, glass and metal, and interior is very rich in wood, so it’s very comfortable for living and staying-in. Interior is simple, but sufficient for students’ needs. Also, it should be said that every piece of furniture is designed to be in touch with exterior, so curved, sleek and modern lines also present in interior.
This structure is eco-friendly, and the idea was to make this shelter an integral part of its surrounding, by building unusual green roof with vegetation that is already present here, and using the water flow and bringing it “into” the building. The whole structure is quite transparent and the idea of this architecture is to show to people that modern architecture can go along with natural surroundings. #architecture #clean_sleek_elegant_lines #competition #concrete #curved #Design_it #ecofriendly #entry #Farimount_Park #genius_loci #glass #Guggenheim_museum #Learning_by_doing #location #metal #modern #Philadelphia #Shelter #water
