Overall height: 38m (125ft). Dome diameter 17.5m (57.4ft). The radar station on the top of the 'Lägern' is part of the swiss radar network and is used to monitor the upper air space for civilian and military air traffic control. The company skyguide (swiss air navigation services ltd) is responsible for security in the airspace of Switzerland in the order of the Swiss Confederation. The spherical shell of the black radome is a self-supporting construction made of 121 elements in various forms. The 38mm thick plastic sandwich plates are screwed together. The radar panel inside is 8m (13ft) long and 2m (7ft) high. One rotation takes 5 seconds. The range is about 280 km (150nm). Since spring 2004, the station is equipped with the system 'Mode-S'.
