Sylva Elementary School

Sylva Elementary School

WLeMay
Description
Sylva Elementary School was constructed in 1929 in Sylva, North Carolina to replace an old, rickety wooden structure that served the town's grade-school children. It served in its original form until 1948, when part of the upper floor collapsed due to a lack of proper maintenance, however, it was subsequently renovated and reopened. It served the town until 1974, when it was closed and replaced by Fairview Elementary School. In 1975, it was torn down and the campus developed into Mark Watson Park, which remains today. It shared a campus with Sylva High School until 1960, at which point it took over the former High School buildings, both of which are also now gone. #16 #1920s #1929 #1970s #1974 #Basketball #Beautiful #Building #Cafeteria #Carolina #Colonial #County #Court #Demolished #Elementary #Exterior #Gone #High #Jackson #Library #Mark #NC #New #North #Of #Park #Picnic #Public #Renewal #Rural #School #Shelter #Stairwells #Sylva #Updated #Urban #Victim #Watson
