York City Wall Tower

York City Wall Tower

Geoffrey H.
Site of a demi-hexagonal tower, part of the city walls, built in the 14th-early 15th centuries and demolished in the 1830s to make way for the railway when the wall was rebuilt, at which time it was rebuilt. It has since been replaced by a buttress. It does not appear on early maps and may have been a product of the 19th century restoration of the wall.
