Maryland Avenue Drawbridge

Maryland Avenue Drawbridge

Description
Built in the 1930's, this may be one of the state's oldest operating drawbridges. It is located in Cambridge Maryland serving boat, cars and pedestrian traffic over Cambridge Creek, an inlet off the Choptank River and Chesapeake Bay. It is operated 24 hours a day and is managed by the State of Maryland Department of Transportation. Art Deco influences can be found on the bridge at least in my opinion. It was apparently built by the Whiting-Turner Construction Company. It connects two main residential and commercial areas of Cambridge. #Art_Deco #blue_crab #bridge #bridge_span #Cambridge_Creek #Cambridge_Historic_District #Cambridge_Maryland #Chesapeake_Bay #Choptank_River #crabbing_industry #Dorchester_County #downtown_Cambridge #drawbridge #marina #Maryland_Avenue #Maryland_Avenue_Bridge #oysters #Sailwinds_Park #watermen
