Colonel Thomas Jefferson Majors, the namesake of the T.J. Majors Building, served in Nebraska’s first legislature which created the first college in the State in 1867. That State Normal School later became Peru State College. Colonel Majors was instrumental in passing the legislation that created Peru State College and he served on the Board of Education of State Normal Schools for nearly fifty years. The College of Education is located in T.J. Majors continuing the tradition of training teachers and leaders in education.
