Cow Tower, Norwich

Cow Tower, Norwich

Jonathan G.
The following from Wikipedia: [Cow Tower is an historic military tower that stands by the River Wensum in Norwich, Norfolk. It gets its name from the water meadow, once known as Cowholme, in which it stands. It is about 15.2m high, with an internal diameter of 7.3m. The walls are 1.8m thick. It was built in the 14th century and was badly damaged in the rebellion led by Robert Kett, whose men were camped on Mousehold Heath on the other side of the river. The tower is currently closed to the public as the building is fragile, but visitors can walk around it.] About the model: A challenging subject to model, but assisted greatly by a document made available online giving scaled plans and dimensions. I have tried to construct the model at least reasonably closely matching these plans, noting that the walls are significantly thicker at the base that at the top; the interior wall is an inverted cone. A lot of photo editing was required because from many angles, the tower is obscured by trees, and because it is permanently locked shut it is not easy to photograph the entire interior. If I return, I will use a camera pole to try and obtain these missing photos. Thank you for reading. #Ancient_Monument #England #medieval #military #Norfolk #Norwich #Ruin #Tower
