Placerias gigas

Placerias gigas

Birdman
Description
One of the last of the large "maamal-like reptiles", the 13 foot long Placerias and similar animals were becoming scarce by the late Triassic. These lumbering beasts were ill equipped to compete with the newer, faster archosaurs and dinosaurs, yet during the early triassic the "mammal-likes" were the animals that overshadowed the newer animals. These cow-sized herbivores used thier tusks to dig for roots and tubers in the soil, a tactic that gave them a small reprise during drought, but not enough of one to compete with the water-saving body designs of the archosaurs. #animal #arizona #birdman #dicynodont #placerias #prehistoric #reptile #triassic
