Tampere railway station

Tampere railway station

Tuomas P.
Tampere railway station was completed in 1936 and at the same time the tunnel going under the railyard for the road now known as Itsenäisyydenkatu was finished. The clock tower was added later as it was required by the railway bureau. The railway station is located in the centre of city and with its rail yard it divides the city the same way as Tammerkoski rapids do. The functionalist style station was designed by Eero Seppälä and Otto Flodin. The station has three platforms (this model has only the first platform though) with five tracks. About 1,5 million passengers pass through the station annually, making it one of the busiest station in Finland outside the capital city area. The passenger tunnel "asematunneli" was built through rail yard in 1989 and the new travel centre tunnel was opened in summer 2008. #asema #clock_tower #Railway #rautatie #Station #Tampere #vr
