Ir - Iridium

Hermes
Electronic configuration Iridium is the chemical element with atomic number 77 and its symbol is Ir. It is a very silvery-white transition metal, belonging to the platinum group. It occurs naturally in an alloy with osmium and is used in the production of metal alloys destined to work at high temperatures and in conditions of high wear. Iridium is believed to be the most corrosion-resistant metal. The name iridium derives from the Latin iridium from iris = rainbow with the addition of the suffix -ium typical of metallic elements. The unusually massive deposition of iridium in some geological strata is believed to be evidence of the alleged meteor impact that, at the turn of the Cretaceous and Tertiary, would have caused the extinction of a large number of forms of living organisms, including large ones, including the dinosaurs. It is used in appliances exposed to high temperatures, in electrical contacts and as a platinum hardener additive. #Ir #Ir77 #Iridium
