Founded by conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1935, three years after the Spanish arrival to the country, Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru, with a population of ca. 7.6 million. Having been the country's government seat for over 460 years, Lima is also the financial, and cultural heart of the country, and is home to a large historical heritage.
